Fear or Faith?

Fear leads you to do foolish things. It can paralyze you, it can keep you from doing the right things, it can keep you from focusing on what really matters. When we cave into fear, we are not able to discern what God is trying to do in us and through us.

I have learned that fear feeds from different places but the root is usually tied to something in our past we want to avoid facing. Fear produces worry, doubt, anxiety and it keeps us from surrendering control. I’m convinced that God knew how important this subject would be for us. Not only is “FEAR NOT” (or similar to) in the Bible 365 times but 121 of those verses are in the New Testament alone.

So how can we overcome fear?

1. PRAY!! I can’t stress this enough. God knows everything you are going through BUT he wants to hear you and speak to you. YES GOD SPEAKS!!

(Psalm 34:4 I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.)

2. BELIEVE that God wants to deliver you from living in fear but it takes action. Believe in God’s word. The word works if you work the word. Live in obedience one day and step at a time. Authentic change does not happen overnight.

(2 Peter 1:5-8 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.)

3. Ask God for DISCERNMENT. Here is a sad reality that most believers don’t think about. There is an enemy that is determined every day and moment to kill, steal and destroy. (John 10:10) — I don’t want you to focus on the enemy BUT unfortunately we live in an time where we forget that there is one. Furthermore, we also forget that everything in our lives we are either catering to the flesh or to the spirit. When I am facing fear (or any situation) I am now seating down and asking God to show me what’s happening and HE DOES.

I will stress point #1: PRAY!! GOD SPEAKS!!!

Fear and faith can’t reside in the same place. They both might be fighting for a place in your heart BUT you have to intentionally choose DAILY which one to feed. Here is something I KNOW: When you feed your faith and you starve your fears to death.

#CHECKPOINT: Take some time today in prayer and ask God to show you what you have been fearful of and why are you feeling this way.
